Coaching Licenses and Certification Pathway

There are two main pathways to becoming a certified coach. Specific leagues may require that coaches hold a specific certification/license/diploma in order for their team to participate.

The U.S. Soccer coaching pathway is broken into two parts, Grassroots and Pro. Coaches start in the age specific courses (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11), and then can advance through the rest of the pathway. The D License is required for a team to participate in the NY West Thruway League.

  • Age Specific Courses – 4 hours each
  • D Course – 55 hours (Candidates must have completed 3 Age Specific courses)
  • C Course – 85 hours (Candidates must hold a D License for at least 6 months)
